The Region
As you wind your way along the small country byways you will see an abundance of caves and swallow holes, museums, and thousands of chateaux, all paying witness to the more than 20 000 years’ of prehistory and history of the region.

Near to our gites you will find footpaths, fishing lakes, canoeing, tennis, horse riding, golf courses and gastronomic restaurants.

Medieval Sarlat:
Sarlat, which is known as one of the most beautiful of French historical towns, is about 10 miles from our gites.

The town, with its paved streets and passageways, is frequently used as a film location because of the authenticity of its lauze and tiled roofs, its gables, turrets and its elements of medieval and renaissance architecture. In the tourist season the town is alive with pavement cafés, street entertainers, boutiques and market stalls. On Wednesday morning there is a thriving farmers’ market in the main square where one can buy anything from a vast array of fruit and vegetables, to locally produced walnuts, foie gras, poultry and flowers. Saturday boasts an even larger market selling a diversity of goods and locally made products. The stalls spread from the main square with its farmers’ produce, down the main shopping street and into the large square in front of the Palais de Justice.

Sarlat is also a town of culture: there is the autumn film festival, the summer festival of theatre, and other cultural activities throughout the year.
